Note that modern browser security may prevent the widget from loading content from other web sites, however the widget should be able to load properly on the chumby devices. These previews are possible through the use of Ruffle ‐ note that Ruffle is still a work in progress, and not all Flash features are implemented, so some widgets may not perform optimally.

Sorry for the double post.. my placeholders in greater than and less than signs were stripped. What is the proper format of the Yahoo Pipes URL for NightClock Plus? I cannot get past the "undefined" error. I've tried: http://pipes.yahoo.com/[username]/[unique ID] http://pipes.yahoo.com/[username]/[unique ID]?_render=rss and http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=[unique ID] Thanks!

Addenum I: RSS 2.0 [http://www.tagesschau.de/xml/rss2] and RDF [http://www.tagesschau.de/newsticker.rdf] is working. ATOM [http://www.tagesschau.de/xml/atom] is *NOT* working.

At first - I´m not a nerd in these webpage-format things. But what I found out is, that this widget is now working - after several tries. I found some different formats (RSS 2.0, RDF, ATOM - see as an example http://www.tagesschau.de/rss-feeds/ ). RSS is working with "http://www.tagesschau.de/xml/rss2", without an ?format=... and so on. So give it a try - it´s a great widget, I like the combination of clock and calendar togehter with a scrolling newsline. For German users : Of course the "Umlaut - Problem" (ÄÖÜ) is still here.

In my previous comment below, I tried to indicate the HTML "break" tag, i.e. "left bracket br right bracket" but that got stripped out...

This widget is great, I use it all the time. A couple of things would make it even better: 1. I'd like a mode where it can show the "now playing" music metadata (available through a Chumby API call) instead of an RSS feed. 2. Since it only shows the RSS item title and not the description, how about allocating the space more like 2/3 clock, 1/3 RSS and/or using a larger font on the RSS part? 3. This seems like a bug, but if you have line breaks (not but actual line breaks) in the RSS item title text, the RSS is displayed double-spaced, i.e. like if you did in HTML. I actually like that you do something with the line breaks (I use that feature in a custom RSS feed that I made just for this widget) but can you make it single space? Now that I think of it, I bet I have Windows-style CRLF in my RSS feed, maybe that's why I'm seeing double-spaced output? Will check that out tonight and follow up.

One small feature that would be nice is the ability to set the number of seconds between rotating to the next RSS item. As described in my previous post, I use it to display weather, with quite a bit of info in each RSS item since I combine the RSS title and description, and trying to digest all the weather elements in 4-5 seconds is a bit tough. Other than that one small thing, I love and use this widget a lot! Thanks!

I use it for weather, although I'm using Yahoo pipes, which requires some hacking. Since this reader only displays the title, and not the description (and all the useful info is in the description) Yahoo Pipes is needed to manipulate the RSS output to either replace or combine the title with the description. Pretty much every weather site has an RSS feed interface to their weather, although many of the big ones like weather.com, accuweather.com, and weather.yahoo.com, tend to put a lot of HTML in their feeds, which is a pain to remove. However, some places like wunderground.com, weatherbug.com, and rssweather.com have text-only outputs that are easier to deal with.

do you know if there is any way to get the local weather on this? I like the idea but I would love to have the local weather to look at for the first thing in the morning or local news. Thanks for a great widget!!!

For people who can't get RSS feeds to work using Yahoo Pipes (getting "undefined"), try changing the "yahoo.com" part of the address to "yahooapis.com", which doesn't doesn't have a crossdomain.xml restriction.

mmmd, it's just not you :) ... Unfortunately, you'll need to run your RSS through something like yahoo pipes or feedburner in order to get passed the undefined message. It's likely a crossdomain issue (check out the chumby forum for lots more on that).

OK, I am web-inorant - what do I do to get the rss feed to work? I copied it from the browser and pasted in to the customize window, starts with http.// and still comes up "undefined". I would love for this widget to work, don't need anything else as a default! thanks!

the xml feed seemed to work fine.... i will try the xml feed from the pipe i made
McConnell

smarsh, this is very odd, it doesn't seem to be working through pipes, but I can get it through feed burner. I'll work towards a fix, but in the mean time, try this link: http://feeds.feedburner.com/SignonsandiegocomMetro?format=xml

further... the original rss fedd is from a single source and does not seem to be x-domain.

i tried creating a pipe via Yahoo Pipes..here is the published URL: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=QqKiiivZ3RGlv4Gj6icw5g still getting the same issue.

Smarsh1966, I think it's a crossdomain issue with the RSS you are trying. You could try running it through yahoo pipes or feed burner. Let me know if you are still having problems.

Photos, Stock Quotes, What alarm will go off next, controls for music (http://wiki.chumby.com/mediawiki/index.php/Controlling_BTplay), maybe it could show multiple RSS feeds and show newest headlines first. really, all the chumby widgets just compacted into that bottom part.

Cool stuff. I could see where a lot of different widgets in night mode would be extremely handy for those of us who wake up a little bit in the night...
adrian.bloomer

it should also automatically be white in the day and black in the night. People could set the times.
adrian.bloomer

I would like it if you could show other stuff besides RSS feeds in the bottom half.
