    This doesn't work BITCH!

APIs change as features are added or removed. It's not always possible or practical to maintain complete backwards compatibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google changes things in their "empire" just to break 3rd-party apps that don't pay up. They want you on *their* sites to see their ads and pick up all their little trackers.

It's not working on my Chumby either. Odds are that YouTube changed some aspect of the API in an incompatible manner. I'm not sure when I'm going to have a chance to look into this. Frankly, there has not been the kind of support I was hoping for from Chumby related to this app. For example, OS changes to deal with sync problems were promised ages ago but never appeared.

So far for the past week, I've been having problems with this app on my Insignia Infocast. I try to play a video, but the video doesn't show and it just goes to the next app and when I try to put the app on hold and play the video it just remains in the red screen and never plays the video. Any ideas?

Search results are up to YouTube. You get the identical results through this app as you would for any other app using their API. Same for lack of login -- that's a restriction of the YouTube API. Video should play smoothly if you followed the prompts to install the system setup. If you still see the "YouTube" banner when you play videos you probably don't have it installed.

searched for e.g. Whiteney Houston, - brought up a list full of junk videos(not original her video) - Mostly video cannot play - Video playing discontinuous, Chumby's well known weak wifi also. - Wanted to login to my own account in YOUTUBE and play my favorate etc. Not capable. I have the 1st version of Chumby with Italian leather outfit.

Right. The uploader can choose not to allow embedded viewing, and instead require that videos be watched on the actual YouTube pages themselves.

This may have been answered already but many of the videos I like to watch on YouTube are displaying "Unable to play this Video! Error: Message from YouTube video cannot be played in the embedded player". Is this an issue that has to be resolved by the up-loader to deselect "YouTube pages only viewing?"

Infocast 8" support is up to Chumby. This is not an application issue.

I am running the chumby8 firmware on the infocast. The widget doesn't seem to show on the device. I would really like to see an update with compatibility for the 8" screens, if you can. Thanks! Happy Holidays, and best regards!

Chumby 8 issues like this are under the control of Chumby per se. I can't deal with them from the app side in a practical manner. Sorry.

Any update on the Chumby 8 Issue? In other words why does it work only with devices with 320x240 screens?

I did the USB update and the NOTE icon is now gone, but I do not have audio on any videos. Any ideas?

Keep in mind that video owners can withdraw the ability to play their videos on other than the actual YouTube pages (for any reason, including wanting people to see the related videos, any ads, etc.) I see this fairly frequently, and it affects all access that's not via the YouTube pages themselves through a full browser.

Just one to notify vortectech gurus that some videos I regularly play, now I can't play them any more. Possible Youtube is changing the requirement for playing videos. The following message appears: "Unable to play this Video! Error: Message from YouTube video cannot be played in the embedded player"

Thanks to everybody who has been involved to help relaunching this app. After a disgusting discussion with some chumby representatives i was very upset with their behavior. Thank you very much vortextech!

  • vortextech

    – May 16 2011

Correct. Due to the way the YouTube APIs function, you cannot seek videos after you've run the boost script to get good playback quality -- videos have to run straight through from the beginning. You can seek videos on a Chumby that hasn't run the boost script, but the playback performance in that case is so poor that it's not worthwhile to even bother. Another trade-off in life ...

The lower slider bar (one that elects video position) does not seem to function on my Chumby one. I followed the USB stick procedure. Any suggestions?

  • vortextech

    – May 16 2011

No problem. You should never have to do the USB "Boost" procedure more than once (unless you've done a factory reset, etc.), and the "NOTE!!!" is the clue that you do need to perform the Boost (or at least, it's very highly recommended for best performance).

I remember doing the USB thing with the original search tube. Where do I get the fix for this search tube 2? thanks

  • mmauka

    – May 12 2011

Addicting! It has been a long time since I played with a Chumby app for more than a minute or two. Works fine on my Chumby One after USB stick procedure.

  • spoonman

    – May 11 2011

Thanks for taking over the project. I can't believe this wasn't a #1 priority for Chumby.. "YouTube now on Chumby!" Should be on the box! (or bag.. whatever it ships in these days. :P )

  • vortextech

    – May 03 2011

If you've never run the USB stick procedure, you'll have a YouTube logo on the display and be in a mode where choppy video can be common. After you've run the USB stick procedure once, you're switched to a mode that typically will have much smoother video playback (however, seeking in videos to different positions is not possible in this mode). You'll know for sure you're in this mode because there will *not* be a YouTube logo on the display when playing videos.

I have been waiting so long to see this app once again. It has always been my favorite. Thank you. And it worked straight away beautifully. Why is there a mention of having to load an API with a usb stick?

  • vortextech

    – April 28 2011

I have now updated the widget profile to specifically exclude other than the 320x240 devices for the time being.

  • vortextech

    – April 28 2011

Chumby says that the widget will not currently work on other than the 320x240 devices. They have told me that they'll look into it on their end, since it is likely not a problem with the SearchTube2 widget per se.

Any way to get this to work on an Infocast 8" Insignia thing? I tried adding it to a channel. It shows up on the web page, but the device says it's not there and won't run it. What gives?

  • avat15

    – April 27 2011

I followed the instructions on the note and it works beautifully! it doesn't pause at all like in trailer addict or the other youtube app.

  • vortextech

    – April 27 2011

The original SearchTube worked exactly the same way in this respect. Smoother playback requires the USB stick file be applied once. SearchTube's original author decided that he no longer wished to work on the project, and turned it over to me for further development.

  • spoonman

    – April 27 2011

Does this require you to copy a file over to the Chumby via USB stick to make the video play smoothly? I liked the original and have no idea why it was pulled.

  • vortextech

    – April 26 2011

There's no practical way to connect to an existing YouTube account through the available API in use, as far as I know right now.

  • full-hd

    – April 26 2011

Is possible to connect to your Youtube-account, so you can see you new videos?

  • vortextech

    – April 26 2011

Works OK in testing on Chumby Classic and Chumby One. When you say it "doesn't work" on your unit, what do you mean? In what way does it not work? Be sure you've followed the instructions in the Note!!! at first run.

Works on the preview but not on my Chumby One! This looks very interesting too i would love to see an update addressing this problem. Maybe due to Youtube just switching primarily to WebM?
