It looks like NOAA may have added something that could make this widget work again. There are regional and USA images presented as GIFs that look like the old stuff. Load a local forecast on weather.gov. Look under additional resources, you'll see two RADAR images. One is the new pretty turd, the other is an old-school gif. Click the one that looks like the old gif and you'll be taken to a page with the images you want - several options, and it looks like you can remove the timestamp from the animation to get the latest image. For example: https://radar.weather.gov/ridge/standard/KCCX_loop.gif

Sorry guys, as mentioned, it looks like the NOAA changed their website so the radar images are no longer available. It was a good run, thank you for your support.

NOAA recently changed their RADAR page and made it "prettier" (read: slower than a dead possum frozen in the arctic ice) and it appears to have broken this widget.

Radar looks dead again. Any chances of reviving it?

Sorry, it looks like there might be an issue with the proxy.chumby.com server handling the requests (there's a related thread in the forum on 1/21/19). I was asked to route all image requests through that server a couple years ago due to certificate issues on certain chumby models.

All I get is: Load failed: URLNotFound http_error:0 path:http://proxy.chumby.com/proxy/https%3A%2F%2Fradar.weather.gov/ridge/lite/N0R/FTG_5.png

Doesn't seem to be working again. Down for several days now. Any updates? This is literally the only channel I use on my chumby-fied dash.

I have noticed that it seems like it only updates maybe 3 or 4 times a day, so you are always looking at what passed through a few hours ago. Not much good.

No it seems like it's pulling down radar again but it's pulling down the radar that is an hour old. Ugh I just wanted this app to work.

It stopped working again... Ugh and it's my favorite app of all!

Yes, it works for me again as well, with an Insignia 3.5 inch. Thanks!

Thanks for the update. The radars now work on my chumby 8's.... Except for the Velocity radar....

It looks like the government changed to https. I updated the app, but it's been awhile and I don't have a way to test so let me know if it works.

I agree, not working for me now either.

This isn't working for me and at least one other user in the forum. It just says "Loading" for the entire time. I noticed some of the sites that were http are now https addresses. Could this be affecting this app? Problem started in early to mid Feb 2017 I think.

I fixed a possible memory leak and did some cleanup on the image loading. The configuration dialogue box can now be closed/cancelled by touching the map. Please report any issues you find (or request additional features) on the Google code site mentioned above. Thank you.

@wicksken - I only updated the description, not the code on 10/24. Could you elaborate on what "it no longer works" means? I'm currently running the app on the Dash and it works fine. Please log more details of the issue on the google code site I have in the description above. One suggestion is delete the app and re-add it to your channel (the Sony device has issues periodically with having apps get corrupted.)

You updated it on 10/24/11 and it no longer works. It was one of the best apps for me.

My understanding is that the I8 with C8 firmware is not an officially supported config. However, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. I use a standard MovieClipLoader to grab the images and a timer to automatically get the latest images after 4 minutes of continuous play. As a work around, you may want to setup your channel to change apps regularly to force a reload.

Now on my Insignia Infocast with the Chumby 8 firmware...the image seems to get "stuck", like Friday morning it is still playing some image it grabbed from the day before. The radar image is being cached somewhere. Restarting the Infocast makes it pick up a new one, but about 18 hours later it stops refreshing the image! Can fix?

Love this app. I live In Florida where there are almost allways scattered showers and so an animated weather radar is the only effective way to know if it might rain. This app has been what my chumby has been missing so thanks alot. Also great job on coverage of West Florida. I also must say it looks fine on my 3.5in screen.

Added mention of United States to clarify the description.

Even if it's perceptible at a glance like in this case that an app is only working as intended for the US of A, it would be nice to add this information to the description of any respective app.

    – July 28 2011

Thanks, eventually it appeared on my Chumby One. Today 7/28 though it seems to have disappeared from the Chumby site! But it is on the Insignia site (I have both devices), hence I had to reply from there (@cdrmrsr). It works well, hope it's going to stay around.

@cdrmrsr - I just tested this app on our chumby one devices here at this app is showing up fine. Have you tried a channel refresh or reboot? If you need further assistance with this come see us in support (http://www.chumby.com/pages/help). -chumby support

I put this on my Chumby One channel and it doesn't even show up! If this is not available on Chumby One, you need to flag it or something so we don't try to use these widgets if they're not going to work.

Thanks for the feedback. I will see what I can do about remembering the panned position between reloads. I will also adjust the zooming control to allow < 100% zoom levels. And I agree a decent radar app has been long overdue...enough for someone who would never be mistaken for a 'developer' to take a crack at writing it! :)

Finally, after all these years, a wise developer writes a decent radar app! It looks great on the big screen chumbys. On the small screen, I have to pan too much to find my city even at 100% zoom. The next time the app reloads, it doesn't remember where I left and I have to start over.
